4 individual lighting solutions for your bathroom

The right lighting often plays an even more important role in the bathroom than in other rooms. Not every bathroom has a window, for example, which is why lighting conditions must be created that replace daylight as effectively as possible while also creating the most pleasant atmosphere possible. In this article, you can read about how to customise the lighting in your bathroom and use it to perfection.

1. Basics: This lighting belongs in every bathroom

As in all other rooms, the basic lighting in the bathroom should come from the ceiling. LED lamps are particularly energy-efficient and bright, whether installed as spotlights, panels or even as normal ceiling lights. These are available in different strengths and light colours, with at least 700 lux recommended for the bathroom. Depending on whether you prefer dim or very bright light, you can use this guideline as a reference. Depending on the size of the room, the bathroom should be equipped in such a way that this value is achieved across the entire area.

How bright this basic lighting makes the room also depends on the type of light incidence. Most bathrooms have indirect lighting. The lamp is hidden behind frosted glass, creating a softer light than is the case with uncovered, direct light sources.

In addition to the ceiling lamp in the bathroom, the mirror should also be well lit, as otherwise impractical shadows will be cast. For daily styling and even lighting accents, lamps mounted to the left and right of the mirror are ideal, as are long lighting elements mounted at the top and accompanying the mirror. Like the ceiling lamp, they should provide diffused light and not dazzle even at high light intensity.

If you have lighting integrated into the mirror, make sure that it is really bright enough. These variants are often very attractive, but much too weak for functional lighting.

2. Take a strategic approach: how to light your bathroom cosily

The bathroom is not just a place for styling and personal hygiene. It should also be a place where you can relax: a long bubble bath or a hot shower can work wonders after a long day. The right lighting plays an important role here.

Warm white LED light has a particularly calming effect and immediately creates a cosy atmosphere. Incidentally, corresponding light strips can be installed in many places. Whether discreet spotlights above the bathtub and in the shower or a lamp strip running along the sideboard: there are many ways to achieve a great effect with indirect lighting. Our living room ceiling lights LEDs are also a perfect stylish match here, as long as the appropriate IP protection class is available, of course.

Candles can be used to create a particularly romantic, cosy atmosphere. The flickering light complements the warm lighting provided by the electric room lighting perfectly.

3. Fine-tuning: adding individual highlights

However, the optimal lighting for your bathroom does not end with choosing where to place the light sources. In fact, this decision is only the beginning, because special functions allow you to make the lighting even more individual and practical.

One option that works well in any bathroom is the dimming function. When dimmed appropriately, hidden LED strips create an even cosier atmosphere and ensure ultimate relaxation.

But elegant lighting does not necessarily have to be hidden behind sideboards, mirrors, etc. If you're not afraid of a little extra effort, you can also have lighting integrated into your bathtub and shower. A light strip that surrounds the entire tub, for example, is an absolutely stylish and unusual eye-catcher. This allows you to add accents without wasting a lot of space with other decorative items.

Illuminated niches are an absolute insider tip. You can create recesses in the shower or next to the bathtub that serve as both storage space and lighting effects. Such niches can be illuminated with IP-protected recessed spotlights or LED strips and look elegant, professional and cosy.

Whether it's an illuminated bathtub, soft, spa-like lighting or an all-round illuminated mirror: rely on a combination of different lighting elements. The bathroom is a place to relax, but that doesn't mean functionality is any less important. Especially where daily styling takes place, sufficiently bright lighting should therefore be a priority.

4. Long-lasting happiness: smart lighting for your bathroom

With clever planning, you can transform your bathroom into the perfect wellness oasis. Have you ever wondered why you always feel instantly comfortable in a spa? It's mainly because of the lighting, and you can use this fact to your advantage at home.

Of course, you should always leave the installation to a professional, as it is a wet room. Accordingly, there are certain criteria for lamps that may be installed in the bathroom. Depending on where the light is used, an IP rating of 21 to 68 is mandatory. The higher this number, the better the protection against water. Leave the use and installation of the right products in areas that come into contact with water to the professionals. The person who carries out the installation is also responsible for safety.

Apart from the characteristics of the lamps, you should also make sure that your bathroom is lit in a way that is suitable for everyday use. The area around the washbasin in particular is usually used on a daily basis and tends to require brighter lighting than the relaxation area around the shower and bathtub. Keep functionality in mind – the most beautiful lighting ambience is of little use if you cannot see enough.

The lighting requirements in the bathroom are varied, which is why it is best to use many different types of lighting. Think about how you use the different areas: in the morning, you wake up and style your hair in front of the mirror. In the evening, you want to relax and unwind in the bathtub.

And relax: why good lighting in the bathroom is worthwhile

With the right type of lighting for every purpose, you can create your own personal spa relatively easily and, above all, permanently. This also includes the option of regulating the light accordingly: dimmers work wonders and create harmonious, dim lighting effects in no time at all.

Alongside the bedroom, the bathroom is the place we most like to use for relaxation. You can afford a little luxury here: opt for individually designed lighting. The high relaxation factor is worth it – we promise.
